The PBL Projects of the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) have developed a comprehensive series of online multimedia Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Challenges based on authentic industry case studies designed to teach critical thinking and problem solving skills in addition to content knowledge, thereby improving students’ preparedness for STEM-related careers.
Professional development support, including in-person workshops as well as on-line follow up activities, are provided to assist project participants with mastering the PBL materials and providing tools to successfully introduce and assess PBL Challenge implementation.
As the projects’ participants became more proficient at introducing PBL in the classroom, requests for developing one’s own Challenges became prevalent. The PBL Projects team has developed a PBL Challenge Design Guide that has been successfully field-tested with in-service STEM secondary and postsecondary instructors. Please see Curriculum Resources to learn more about the PBL Challenge Design Guide.
